Frequently Asked Questions

-
Will my flowers look the same?It depends on the flower and variety of that flower. Drying flowers for resin enables us to keep the natural shape of your flowers and sometimes color, but you should expect there to be some changes. Many white flowers, especially roses, often change color to ivory, cream or shades of light brown giving them an antique appearance. Red flowers can turn very dark, almost black and blush flowers can take on a purple hue. I am happy to talk to you about my recommended flowers for preserving in resin! Love spots are translucent spots that can appear on flower petals that have been bruised at some point in their handling. Often, we cannot see these spots until resin is poured onto the flower and resin fills the bruised space, creating that spotted look. We offer detailed bouquet handling suggestions to help prevent this from happening while your flowers are in your care.

Will my artwork be perfect? While we do our very best to ensure that each piece of art is as flaw-free as possible, small imperfections are a normal part of resin preservation. Each handmade keepsake undergoes many hours of labor and is meticulously inspected but things like small bubbles, specks of natural debris/dust, silica grains or small resin swirls can occur. The sides of thick resin blocks will show thin layer lines, which is also a natural part of resin preservation.
-
Will my artwork last forever?Yes, but it will change over time. All resin undergoes a chemical process known as “ambering,” which means your resin will develop a light golden hue as it ages. We use only the highest quality resin with UV inhibitors to slow this inevitable aging process. Keeping your artwork away from heat sources and UV light, such as windows, will help slow this process significantly. Additionally, adding a black background to your piece is a good way to disguise future ambering.
-
Do you offer color correction for resin preservation?I do not offer color correction for flowers being preserved in resin at this time.
-
Can you incorporate personal items like invitations or ribbon into my piece?Yes! I am happy to hear your ideas and see what you have in mind.

Why does resin preservation seem expensive? Before I began working with resin I wondered the same thing and quickly found out. First, there are many materials that are needed to create a quality floral block. Premium grade resin with UV inhibitors is just one of them, which is costly. A single project takes many labor hours spread over weeks and months to do properly. Importantly, preserving your most precious flowers is a precise and delicate process that takes an acquired set of skills. It is important to find a resin artist who has the proper experience to execute your project. While resin preservation may seem expensive upfront, it can be a cherished keepsake that lasts for many years. The cost can be seen as an investment in a beautiful and meaningful memory.

How do I care for completed work?To ensure the quality and longevity of your pieces, please follow these care instructions: Display your pieces away from heat sources and sunny locations like windows. UV rays and heat can break down the resin compound, causing it to turn amber over time. While all resin will amber with age, following these instructions can help slow the process. Smudges and fingerprints can happen easily when handling your pieces. If needed, wash with warm water and soap, then dry with a soft, microfiber cloth. Flowers will fade in color over time, which is a completely natural process. Scratches and wear on heavily used items are normal, but treat your artwork gently. Large resin blocks are heavy, so be mindful when deciding where to display your piece. If your resin block starts to loose it's shine, you can polish with a drop of cooking oil and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth.

Will the pressing process change the colors of my flowers?Yes. Some flowers press and keep their colors nicely, while many do end up changing and fading into different tones of their original color. This all goes back to the type of flower and variety. Color changes are a natural part of the pressing process and we embrace this organic occurrence.

Will my flowers change over time?Yes. Please keep in mind that your flowers are organic matter, and they will continue to change in color as they age. We use special order UV glass to protect your flowers, but you should also keep your frames out of direct sunlight, away from heat sources and out of humid spaces to slow down the aging process.
-
Do you offer color correction for pressed flowers? At this time we offer minimal color correction for pressed flowers. We like to embrace the natural color change of your flowers.
-
What type of frames do you offer? We use custom, locally made wooden frames. At the time of your design layout finalization, we will also confirm which color frame you would like. Typical frames are "floating" style which means your flowers are held between two pieces of glass. If you would like a matted background instead of glass, just let us know.
